1. US mission in India releases over 1 lakh work-based H&L VISA appointments
For those who qualify for a visa under the employment-based H&L category and their family members, the US embassy in India has made over a lakh appointments available. Following the Indian foreign minister’s discussion of the visa delay with the US secretary of state late last month, this was one of the important guarantees recently provided by the US embassy here. As of last Friday, the wait times for first-time B1 (business) and B2 (visitor) applicants were 884 days in Delhi and 872 in Mumbai, respectively. This means that the wait times are now getting close to 2.5 years!
2. Canada to allow international students to work off-campus over 20 hours per week
International students in Canada have been allowed to work up to 24 hours per week off campus since a rule change introduced by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) in November 2024. The update replaced the earlier 20-hour weekly cap and applied to all eligible students studying at designated learning institutions (DLIs).

India has issued a comprehensive advisory to citizens planning to study medicine in China. The government has warned about the challenges they may face after studying in China, including low pass percentage, the need to learn the official spoken language there and the stringent rules for practising as a doctor in India.
4. U.S. Mission in India Issues Highest-Ever Number of Student Visas in 2022
The US Missions in India said on Thursday that it has issued a record-breaking 82,000 student visas in 2022 till date – a number higher than any other country. From May to August, the US missions in New Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai made sure that they processed the applications of as many qualified students as possible.
